Summerfest 2016 Brochure

The Summer Fest Committee of the Farmington Downtown Association has plans underway for the 2016 Summer Fest, to be held this year on Friday, July 22nd and Saturday, July 23rd. “We are excited to get an early start this year on our plans - well ahead of last year, by more than two months” said Committee Chair Susun Terese. “We are continuing our theme of ‘Old Tyme Fun’,” she says, “and have formulated a mission statement that we hope will remain a long-term set of intentions for Summer Fest, to ensure the longevity and vitality of one of Farmington’s biggest events.”

Farmington Summer Fest Objectives: to create an event that delivers a sense of simplicity and fun to the members of our community, rooted in our rich heritage, that takes us out of our highly technological and high-pressured world for a short time and reminds us that we all have within us, and at our disposal, the means to enjoy life and each other on other levels: through food, music, arts, old fashioned games and contests, and other types of physical activity; to encourage local amateur participation as well as providing entertainment from other areas; to encourage a sense of community pride and cohesiveness; to stimulate travel to Farmington and the surrounding areas; and to promote local business.

Plans this year include a kick-off event on Friday evening in Meetinghouse Park, with food vendors available in the area. A talent show - “Farmington’s Got Talent” - will be held in the park on Friday night, with an invitation to all ages and types of talent. Prizes will be given for best performances in the different age groups. There will also be a “Gong Show” element to this event! Following the talent show there will be a concert by “Sunday Project”, a lively musical group that was very well-received at last year’s Summer Fest.

On Saturday, in addition to vendors, street performers, small groups of musicians, and other events, we will hold our second annual “Great Float Race” down the Sandy River, with prizes for costumes, float decorations and best times. In the early evening we’ll have another new event: the “Dreamin’ Big Bed Race” - to be held on Broadway, comprised of teams of five people racing beds on wheels ; prizes for costumes, bed design and best times.
