WHAT’S IN A NAME?

As we enter our fourth year of ownership of Whispering Pines Motel we have decided to change the name of the motel. We want the motel’s name to be more representative of our location and more accurately reflect the type of lodging facility it has become. Our new name will be “Wilson Lake Inn”.

Whispering Pines Motel was established in the mid 1950’s as a “modern motel on beautiful Lake Wilson in Wilton, Maine.” The original building featured 10 motel rooms and was nestled in a grove of towering pine trees, hence its name.

Today the pines are mostly gone, giving way to the growth and expansion of the business over the last 20 years. The word “motel”, for us, denotes an impersonal, cookie cutter type of facility where every room is the same. Our buildings have seen three major additions, so today we have a variety of 30 guest units that include single rooms, extended stay studios and apartment size two bedroom suites.

We have a warm, casual and homelike atmosphere that the word “motel” does not really convey. The lakefront is still the focal point and provides a shaded, quiet space to enjoy the beauty and activities on Wilson Lake.

Our plan is to have many of the necessary changes up before the end of the year. New directional road signs through the DOT, a new sign design on Rte 2 sign featuring “Wilson Lake Inn”. Our current and newly designed web site: www.thewhisperingpinesmotel.com will soon become: www.wilsonlakeinn.com.

We invite you to come and tour our grounds and facility. We have worked hard to make many improvements over the past three years and have plans to do even more in the near future. We have added high speed wireless internet, a computer for guest use, a meeting room with kitchen facilities, renovated and updated eight guest units with warm colors, coverlets and bed skirts with much more to come. The back lawn area is now edged with three large perennial gardens and we are participating in the Lakesmart Program to improve our lakefront area.

We are growing and changing along with the times and feel our new name “Wilson Lake Inn” reflects where and what we are today and our plans for the future.
