Wilton
First settled in 1789, Wilton was originally called Tyngtown, in honor of William Tyng of Massachusetts, the original grantee of the town. Today, Wilton is a pretty New England community on the shore of Wilson Lake with a population of 4,200. While boasting several small businesses, it still has a wonderful sense of a quiet small town.
Wilton is the home of the Bass Weegun shoe; world-famous Forster Manufacturing, maker of croquet sets and plastic cutlery; and the only fiddlehead canning factory in the country.
Wilton's historic downtown is growing with the revitalization of the original G H Bass shoe factory. The 100-year-old building is filled with an art studio, offices, and a class A restaurant and banquet hall. ICT telemarketing has located in Wilton in the G H Bass complex on Weld Street.
Wilton hosts its famous two-day Blueberry Festival on the first weekend in August every year. This festival features three parades (a traditional parade with floats, a parade of animals, and a doll carriage parade), a fireman's muster, pie eating and baking contests, a chicken barbecue, clogging, puppetry, a 10K race around Wilson Lake (and a IK race for youngsters), and a Coke bottle race.
